Etiquette for Allies Webinar Event

Part 1/2 on October 25th, at 10am Pacific

Join Ta7talíya & Ta7talíya-men on Wednesday, October 25th at 10 am Pacific for a 60-minute Webinar style workshop.

This course is for you if:

  • You worry about unintentionally "saying the wrong thing" or "offending someone"

  • You want to raise your awareness about internal/unconscious biases about Indigenous Peoples

  • You want to understand what "colonial conditioning" is and how it continues

  • You want to move beyond focusing on “that wasn’t my intention”

Etiquette for Allies (E4A) provides a roadmap for navigating the space between Intention and Impact. You might not realize how your actions and words land, their impact, or the harm they cause. Colonialism, including direct or indirect disrespect for Indigenous Peoples, continues through anti-Indigenous communication, contributing to ongoing systemic oppression.

Within every moment, we can decide to disrupt or contribute to anti-Indigenous racism - if we can identify what it looks and sounds like. E4A spotlights harmful communications and the dominant cultural ideologies that continue them.

Allyship is a lifelong practice with a never-ending list of front lines to strengthen your knowledge, approach and abilities. E4A focuses on four key concepts that need daylight, which means to move from unconscious to conscious. In part 1 we will cover

  1. False Equivalency: You will learn how false equivalency perpetuates harmful anti-Indigenous narratives and how to engage in more nuanced and empathetic discussions.

  2. Decentring Yourself: You will learn to recognize the importance of stepping back and decentering yourself. We will explore the difference between uplifting Indigenous initiatives and benefitting from trying to fix or include us.

PLEASE NOTE: This event will NOT be recorded, and there are no refunds if you cannot attend!
